We reviewed various studies to see how effective glucosamine and similar chondroprotectors are for treating chronic back pain.

Our findings indicated that these drugs may provide pain relief comparable to traditional anti-inflammatory medications, showing potential benefits in reducing inflammation and improving function.

However, the overall evidence suggests that while they can help with osteoarthritis, the support for back pain relief specifically remains limited. This means glucosamine might not be the go-to treatment for everyone suffering from back issues.

We examined the effectiveness of a chondroprotector called Sustagard Artro against traditional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for easing lower back pain.

Our study involved sixty patients with spondylarthrosis, divided into two groups receiving either Sustagard Artro or NSAIDs.

After treatment, both groups showed a similar level of pain relief, with no significant differences in effectiveness. This suggests that Sustagard Artro may be a viable alternative to NSAIDs for back pain management.

Glucosamine injections not effective
We examined the effectiveness of glucosamine injections for treating chronic lower back pain in a pilot study. Thirty participants, all struggling with severe back pain for an average of 8.5 years, received injections into their lumbar discs.

After one year, we compared their pain and disability scores to see if there were improvements. Unfortunately, the results indicated no significant change in their condition. While this study highlights the need for more rigorous trials, we're left with no strong evidence to support glucosamine injections for back pain relief.

Effective joint support
They absolutely work! I've been taking another brand but switched to Puritan due to their great price. I’m 70 and have trained since my teens. When I ran out, the pain returned with a vengeance, but these pills have made it non-existent in just three days. If you have joint pain, buy this brand! I've tried various brands, and none compare in price or efficiency.

Joint pain relief
It works, and I prefer taking just 2 pills instead of 3. It has helped both my husband and me with joint pain, especially in the lower back and hips. I also appreciate that I only have to take 2 pills; that's the primary reason for choosing this product. I recommend it.

Significant knee relief
Really does work! My doctor recommended I try glucosamine again, so I did some research and settled on this for the best cost and benefits. I've taken glucosamine before with no relief, so I wasn't expecting much. Combined with what I'm already on, this helped a lot. I noticed my knee pain was much better going up and down stairs, and my hip pain didn’t keep me awake at night anymore. I also take collagen, krill oil, turmeric, and a supplement called Ease. If I stop taking either, the pain returns, so it’s clear I need them both. The tablet is large but can be broken in half. There’s no real flavour or aftertaste. I highly recommend this!

Back and knee relief
Helped my back, knees, and sciatic pain. I purchased this over a year ago for knee pain - it worked. Recently, I had lower back and thigh pain attributed to using an extension ladder while painting. I started taking this product and realised it was mainly responsible for my improvement. I will add this back to my regimen for fall yard work.

Knee pain relief
These caplets are huge! I first tried this supplement years ago for knee pain on a friend's recommendation. I was told it would take about four weeks to notice effects, but after just two weeks, my knee pain vanished. I continued for a year before stopping, and the pain didn’t return for 3-4 years. I now bought the triple strength version, but the large size makes them hard to swallow.
